OUR HISTORY

The Canadian Kennel Club made a motion to combine the three Cocker varieties into one breed.  Before this, there were four varieties (including black & tan).   The club was formed to have a united voice in preparing the submission to CKC regarding this issue.  Despite significant lobbying and letter writing from Cocker fanciers nationwide, the change to combine the varieties was implemented and American Cocker Spaniels are judged against each other.

The Canadian Kennel Club recognized the American Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada on March 14, 1984. The Club's first Newsletter was published in 1984.  At the time, the Club's officers were:  Jean Palmer (President), Susan Harrison (Vice-President), Lois Proctor (Secretary) and Maxine Norris, Kathy Nickle and Jean deWoolfe (Directors).  Other early club members included Sandra Lex, Kay Nickle, Carol Watson and Carol & Bert Schutte.

The first National Specialty Show was held August 30th 1986.

Since then, this Club has been dedicated to the preservation of our breed in Canada and has been the breed's national voice and official connection to the Canadian Kennel Club.

Our ACSCC members have spent decades striving for excellence in preserving this breed in Canada through well-bred, well-rounded, breed-standard American Cocker Spaniels.

While some individuals may present themselves as 'reputable' or 'CKC Registered' -- ACSCC members live on Canadian soil, have been screened and approved for membership in this Club, and are held accountable to the standards set forth by our country's governing national registry, the Canadian Kennel Club.  In your search for a well-bred American Cocker Spaniel in Canada, please ensure that the breeder you call upon is legitimately based in Canada.

We hope you enjoy your visit through our website.
